Unbiased expert advice
Installing a new server for your business can be a daunting prospect, there’s a million and one solutions which can all work for your company but finding the right way to go can sometimes seem impossible.
That's where our experts come in!
What’s a Cloud based server?
You may have seen many IT providers promote cloud hosting services, but what actually is it? Is it right for you?
A cloud based system means using internet based providers to store your data off site rather than a physical hard drive or on-site server. With this, you’ll still have a server, specced for what you need, however it will be stored in a datacenter, and the hardware won’t be physically owned by you. The information on this can then still be accessed and edited as if using an on-site storage solution.
The beauty of a cloud based server system is that all you need is an internet connection, whether you’re in Manchester, Cheshire or London, no matter where you are, you can then connect to your server as if you were in the office. There is also little physical maintenance with a cloud server, as your hosting provider does that for you.
What’s an on-prem server?
You could be mistaken for believing that having a server in your office is now a thing of the past… But in fact, even in today’s advanced world of computing on-premises servers can still have a place.
An on-prem server is basically a server which is hosted by yourselves within your business, a ‘physical’ server if you may.
These can be particularly useful for things such as software servers hosting databases for your bespoke software, file storage for vasts amount of data or for things such as domain controllers which manage the domain and all of the devices within.
Whether it’s on-prem or cloud hosted you want, it all depends on your current setup, more importantly it also depends how you want to work moving forward.
